EFCC election monitoring teams attacked in Abuja, Imo

 

On Saturday, February 25, 2023, political thugs attacked a group of EFCC agents who were on duty monitoring the presidential and national assembly elections in the vicinity of the Chief's palace in the Bwari Area council of the Federal Capital Territory.

The attack happened after a guy was detained for allegedly orchestrating a well-planned vote-buying scheme at the voting location at Science Primary School, Bwari.

The team had detained the suspect, who was believed to be around 30 years old, and had obtained from him a list of the recipients to whom he had already made payments using an online banking app.

The thugs attacked the patrol van of the Commission while it was being used to move the suspect away from the voting booth, shattering the windshield.

They didn't retreat into their hiding places until the Commission's agent fired a warning shot in response, at which point members of the Joint Task Force team—which included the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police, and others—arrived on the site.

At the Bwari Police Station, the event was reported right away. In a similar incident, a group of EFCC agents working on election monitoring duty at Unit 001, Mann Primary School behind Chorobim Junction were shot at by unidentified individuals driving two black Prado SUVs and one white Hilux outside the polling place, who were allegedly purchasing votes.

They had to depart the area once the EFCC team intervened. DCP Operations, Haruna Femi, at the Imo State Police Command received a formal report of the event.
