Jenni Hermoso, the female football player involved in the kiss story, has charged Luis Rubiales, the suspended Spanish football chieftain, of sexual assault for kissing her on the lips without her agreement. He faces time in prison.
At the conclusion of the Women's World Cup final on Sunday, August 20, 2023, in Sydney, Australia, Rubiales made headlines by kissing a Spanish women's football player. La Roja had just defeated the Three Lionesses of England.
The prosecutor's office in Madrid warned that, in accordance with a sexual consent statute introduced last year, Rubiales may face a fine or a prison sentence of one to four years if proven guilty, according to the Associated Press.
The new rule made no distinction between "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault," legalizing any uninvited sexual activity.
Hermoso has refuted Rubiales' assertion that the kiss was consensual in remarks made by her and her players' union, despite the fact that Rubiales, the now-suspended president of the Spanish soccer federation, has asserted it was.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident caused by the kiss that stained her team's victory, Hermoso said that the federation put pressure on her and her family to back Rubiales.
This occurs at a time when accusations of various types of sexual assaults are tarnishing the reputation of the football fraternity and leaving fans wondering what is going on in the business.
Recently, Anthony Santos of Manchester United was charged with sexual assault by his ex-girlfriend.
The Brazilian playmaker is unable to feature in any of his nation's games during the international break in September.
Prior to then, trials involving Mason Greenwood of Manchester United and Benjamin Mendy of Manchester City resulted in the players' dismissal and acquittal by the legal system.
To the women who started the saga, however, nothing was said or done. They didn't receive a warning or a fee for making false claims, if any, against their male family members.
Funny enough, the lady who accused Greenwood is still living with him and has given birth to a child for him.
There is a pressing need to learn why Rubiales chose Hermoso for a kiss. Was she the most attractive player's woman or was there some sort of immoral love affair going on prior to the kiss?
Or perhaps Rubiale's actions went too far with a potential love triangle that existed in the players' camp and perhaps in other women's football camps?
Could Rubiales have been testing his manhood with a vulnerable female player at his disposal? .
According to a popular saying, "If a man is given a female slave as a wife, such a man would never know the value of a woman."
Who is killing our football, the players, the coaches, or the ladies in both lives? is a question that remains unanswered.
Sadly, FIFA is not doing enough to stop the horrors that are common in football circles.
If the 'Rubiales sex-gate' had occurred in one of the underdeveloped nations, where playing football is more of a means of economic existence than a game, the scandal would have been put to rest immediately since the player would have been viewed as lucky to have received a kiss from the FA chairman.
With apparently disciplined and morally upright individuals serving as managers or administrators, there is clearly a very unfavorable trend developing in the system.
