The Federal Government started the preparation of the 2024 budget, which it plans to submit in October 2023, through the ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and to achieve this, the budget office of the federation on Monday started the 2024 preparation training, mainly on the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System Budget Preparation Sub-System (GIFMIS/BPS), for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The training session, according to Ben Akabueze, Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation (BoF), highlights the budget office's commitment to improving fiscal responsibility and accountability in managing public finances.

When speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Hapsatu Mormoni, director of revenue and fiscal policy, said, "This crucial training is aimed at enhancing your collective capacity to effectively use the Budget Preparation Sub-System of the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System in the budget preparation process."

He claims that participants in the GIFMIS budget preparation subsystem training program leave with the skills and knowledge needed to streamline the organization's budgetary procedures. He said that the technology-driven system improved accountability, reduced bottlenecks, and increased efficiency.

"As we assemble here, it is essential that we understand the importance of our roles in coordinating our efforts with the objectives of the Nigerian people and the administration's development strategy. The administration of President Tinubu is dedicated to keeping its commitments to our citizens. The delivery of the government's commitment to all Nigerians should therefore continue to be the center of our attention.

"To do this, collaboration and synergy between the various MDAs are essential. We must align our sectoral policies and programs with this Administration's specific objective as well as the broad National Development Plan 2021–2025. We must make sure that our actions are coordinated, that our resources are used effectively, and that the results of our combined efforts are felt throughout the country.

MDAs are asked to carefully read the Budget Call Circular and to follow the instructions in order to avoid making mistakes that would typically be prevented. To that aim, this year's program will place special emphasis on important clauses and sections to remember in the 2024 FGN Budget Call Circular. To clear any doubt We have the BOF  Helpdesk running at full capacity currently to take care of all inquiries that officers may have in the preparation of their respective budgets,” Akabueze said.

We have to submit it before the end of October, Mormoni remarked during the press conference. We intend to meet the deadline in order for the National Assembly to complete its own work and pass the budget before the end of the year.

She stated regarding the 2023 budget, "We are doing well, and we hope to bring out the figure very soon."

Director of Procurement Ade Agbana Titus predicted that the training would take place across the six geopolitical zones in less than two weeks.

He claimed that prior to today, procurement was an unassessable fantasy. However, current procurement issues have been resolved, preventing bottlenecks in the workflow. "We are currently working to ensure that we meet up with the budget.
