On Wednesday, many fiber cuts made it difficult for MTN customers to use the Internet and place calls for hours.

BusinessDay received confirmation from Funso Aina, senior manager of MTN Nigeria's external relations.
"Our customers have been having trouble connecting to the network because of a significant service outage brought on by numerous fiber cuts, which has an impact on voice and data services," he stated.

"Our engineers are putting a lot of effort into fixing this, and services are being gradually restored in some areas."

The Nigerian Communications Commission reports that MTN now has 87.04 million active mobile subscribers.

Details to follow.
