Under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the 36 state governors are convening for an extended brainstorming session to generate ideas regarding the National Minimum Wage, which is currently under consideration by the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage.
The governors are getting together at the NGF National Secretariat in Abuja to talk about the latest developments regarding the matter and to ensure mutual understanding.
The meeting's agenda also includes topics like local government autonomy and NC-CARES funding to the States.
Remember that the federal government filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court last month against the governors of the 36 states that make up the Federation for alleged misconduct in the management of Local Government Areas, or LGAs.
In the lawsuit SC/CV/343/2024, the Federation's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, filed on behalf of the country's LGAs, the third tier of government, is asking for complete autonomy.

Additionally, an order is needed to allow the money that local governments have in their credit to be sent directly from the Federation Account to them in accordance with the Constitution's requirements rather than through allegedly illegal joint accounts that governors have opened.
Additionally, FG requested an order from the Supreme Court prohibiting governors from forming new Caretaker Committees to manage local government operations in opposition to the democratic system that is recognized and guaranteed by the constitution.
The governors of Oyo, Zamfara, Anambra, Delta, and Gombe States have already arrived for the conference.
