Muhammadu Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, made this recommendation to state directors of the Department of State Services, North-East, on Wednesday at the 16th quarterly regional conference of the directors. Punch Online reports that the directors are from Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Taraba, and Adamawa states. Yahaya was speaking on behalf of Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau.
In addition to the usual fare of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, conflicts between farmers and herders, cattle rustling, and flooding, Yahaya stated that "as you consider new numerous emerging challenges that may occur different nature issue like minimum wage, increasing poverty and visible hunger in the land, flooding, cyber crime, 'wild' social media, criminal vehicle operators, misuse of positions by government officials or politicians."
“Our present efforts that result into the apprehending the messengers, rather than those sending the message remain a big challenge, that must be overcome, individually and collectively as security agencies.
“As you spend three days discussing your mandate, I urge you to protect and defend the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, from threats of enemies and those who do not want the prosperity of our nation.”
He pointed out that at the conclusion of the meeting, decisions, resolutions, suggestions, and actions ought to exhibit the pertinent, adaptable, receptive, robust, and responsive characteristics of contemporary, successful organizations.
"Be confident of the government's support as your organization and other law enforcement agents carry out the mandate of guaranteeing security in the state," he continued. State Director of Security for Gombe State, Habu Sambo, who also serves as the Chairman of the SDSES, North-East zone, stated during his welcoming speech that ideas from stakeholders aimed at reducing insecurity in the area should be gathered for the quarterly report.
"This gathering of minds and expertise is a significant step towards addressing the various security challenges that our region faces," stated Sambo. To plan, work together, and develop long-term answers to these urgent problems, we must unite as a force.
Speaking further, Sambo urged attendees to take advantage of the conference's benefits in order to enhance service provision.

Yahaya praised the directors' efforts to solidify peace and unity in the nation and region, but she also acknowledged that each command faced difficulties. "My dear SDSES, I am not unaware of the lack of adequate logistics, capacity building, resources, unpatriotic citizens (who have made money the goal of all social action) and other issues that are bottlenecks as you discharge your duties," Yahaya said.
