In the opening Round of 16 games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, ten-man Angola stunned Namibia with a 3-0 loss to advance to the tournament's quarterfinals.Gelson Dala increased his 2023 AFCON goal total to four goals with two goals for the Palancas Negras.


According to the results, Angola will play in the following round later on Saturday against the victor of Nigeria's and Cameroon's last-16 match.


Mabululu's goal midway through the second half effectively ended the match between the neighbors of southern Africa, following two goals by Dala in the first.


First-half red cards from Angola goalkeeper Neblu and Namibia defender Lubeni Haukongo reduced both sides to 10 men.


Angola outperformed Senegal and Malawi, who had won the Cup of Nations by two goals, with a record-breaking winning margin.


When the highlight of African football began in the Ivory Coast 14 days ago, nobody would have predicted the first of eight matches in the second round.


Despite having only four victories in 26 AFCON matches, Angola surprised everyone by winning a group that included Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and shock casualties Algeria.
