Armed forces in 3-day mourning to honour fallen soldiers

 

A three-day period of national mourning has been declared by the Nigerian Armed Forces in memory of the seventeen soldiers who were ruthlessly murdered in Okuama, Delta State, by angry youths.

Prominent individuals who passed away included Major Gembu Shafa, the JTF Commander in Bomadi, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali, the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, as well as a Captain and another Major.

Flags will be flown at half-mast on all military stations across the country as a solemn sign of respect. The Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force are the three branches to which General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has issued this command.

All flags will be lowered to half-mast in observance of the fallen military members who valiantly lost their lives in service to the country from today, March 18, 2024, until March 20, 2024. This custom expresses reverence and profound grief for these departed warriors.
