Khyree Jackson, a 24-year-old cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, was among three people killed in a high-speed crash in Prince George’s County, Maryland, early Saturday morning, June 6, 2024. The crash occurred just before 3:15 a.m. and involved three vehicles, police said in a news release.


Jackson was in the front passenger seat of a maroon Dodge Charger driven by Isaiah Hazel, 23, with Anthony Lytton, 24, as the other passenger. Hazel and Jackson died at the scene, while Lytton was transported to a hospital where he later died.


The crash was initiated by a silver Infiniti, driven by Cori Clingman, which was traveling northbound on Route 4 at a high speed. Clingman attempted to change lanes, striking the Charger before colliding with a Chevrolet Impala. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor, and charges are pending.


The impact caused the Charger to veer off the road, hitting multiple tree stumps before stopping. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his grief, stating, "Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him."


The Vikings released a statement saying they were "devastated" by Jackson’s death. "Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident," the team wrote on X.


Jackson, a Maryland native, was a starting cornerback at the University of Oregon and was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL draft in April. He attended Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School along with Hazel and Lytton, according to a social media post from the school's athletic department.
