A recent report by the New York Post reveals that a prominent neurologist in Washington D.C. met with President Biden’s personal doctor at the White House earlier this year. According to the publication, visitor logs indicate that Dr. Kevin Cannard, a renowned Parkinson’s disease specialist at Walter Reed Medical Center, met with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden's personal physician, and two others at the White House residence clinic on January 17.
This meeting comes as questions about the 81-year-old president’s mental health intensify following a debate slip-up with former President Donald Trump last week. Dr. John E. Atwood, a cardiologist also affiliated with Walter Reed Medical Center, was present at the 5 P.M. meeting, as per the White House visitor logs, the NY Post reports.
The fourth attendee of the meeting has not been identified in the logs. On that day, Biden was at the White House hosting House and Senate leaders to discuss increased funding for Ukraine, according to his official schedule.
Dr. Cannard is a significant figure in the field of Parkinson’s disease and has been with Walter Reed for nearly two decades. Since 2012, he has served as the “neurology specialist supporting the White House Medical Unit,” according to his LinkedIn profile. His latest research, published in August 2023 in the journal Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, focuses on the early stages of the disease.
Given Dr. O’Connor's primary responsibility for President Biden's health, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tx), who served as the physician for Presidents Obama and Trump, believes it is highly likely the meeting concerned the president's health. “It’s highly likely they were talking about Biden,” Jackson told The Post. “He should only be [regularly] treating the president and the first family.”
Dr. O’Connor has been Biden’s official physician since January 2021 and maintains daily contact with the president.
