Yobe Governor Pledges Enhanced Social Support Amid Economic Hardships

Governor Mala Buni of Yobe State has pledged to prioritize social support through empowerment initiatives, acknowledging the significant hardships faced by residents. This commitment was articulated by Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, following a meeting with religious and traditional leaders convened by Governor Buni on Monday.

Bego emphasized that the Buni administration is acutely aware of the socio-economic challenges confronting residents and is dedicated to prioritizing social support and community engagement for essential development. "The Yobe State Government, under Governor Mai Mala Buni's leadership, will continue to prioritize social support through empowerment schemes and training for youths, women, and other population segments. This is part of our effort to alleviate the current socio-economic difficulties faced nationwide," Bego stated.

He added that the government would enhance community engagement through local government councils, traditional institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure residents are fully informed about government policies and programs and involved in their implementation.

During the meeting at Government House in Damaturu, which included local government chairmen, 14 Emirs, senior government officials, and members of the state executive council, it was emphasized that local government and traditional councils must address community issues to strengthen trust, neighborliness, and cohesion. The meeting also highlighted the need for more avenues for skills and craft training to help youths establish small or medium businesses or venture into agriculture and food production.

The gathering commended the state government for its empowerment support for women and youths, particularly the recent multi-billion-naira agriculture empowerment program launched by the President, represented by the Vice President. They urged the state government to ensure the benefits reach the intended recipients across the 17 local government areas.
